2023 Glendale City Comfort Women Victims Memorial Day

Preserving Korean history has always been one of the missions of Hwarang International. Every year, the organization collaborates with the city of Glendale to participate in and organize a memorial event held on Comfort Women Victims Memorial Day. Since the installation of the "Peace Monument for Comfort Women" at the Glendale Central Library, the city has designated July 30th as Comfort Women Victims Memorial Day to honor and preserve the memory of the victims.

Each year, Hwarang members prepare speeches and artworks for display during this event. In the summer of 2022, they published a book titled 'Remembering Comfort Women for Peace,' which extensively documented the stories and testimonies of past comfort women victims, including edited works by the members. Following the publication, Hwarang's student president, Eileen Lee, delivered a speech in front of the Glendale City Council on July 19, 2022.

On July 15th this year, student president Madison Park made a speech in front of the Glendale City Council. Several leaders, including Claire Dogo from the Earth District, Andrew Lee from the LA District, and Aram Lee from the OC District, participated in the event. In recognition of the efforts made by city council members in preserving the history of victim remembrance over the past few years, the executive team specially presented a trophy created by Hwarang International to the mayor and city council members.
