John M. Lelis, CPS
Mr. Lelis graduated Executive Security Internationalâs (ESI) (www.esi-lifeforce.com) Advanced Executive Protection Program in May of 1992 with a rank of level one. Specific training as a Certified Executive Protection Specialist includes; Protective Detail Operations, Profiles of Terrorism, Bomb Search and Identification, Human Behavior, First Respondent Medicine, Defensive Driving and Motorcades, Intelligence Gathering, Defensive Shooting, Low Light Shooting, Unarmed Defensive Tactics, Electronic Security and Electronic Countermeasures. Mr. Lelis is also an active member in the ESI Alumni Association and is a Defensive Tactics Instructor for ESIâs innovative satellite training program.
As a California Commissioned Peace Officer, working as a Kern County Sheriffâs Senior Reserve Deputy, Mr. Lelis has gained extensive experience in Law Enforcement. Having logged thousands of hours of street time to include; warrant service, probation searches, drug interdiction, prisoner transports, search and rescue, regular patrol duties and special event security. Mr. Lelis is also an active member of the Vice Team and Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) team. He trains regularly with the California Reserve Peace Officer Association (C.R.P.O.A.), maintaining a minimum of 24 hours of P.O.S.T. Certified Training annually. Training has included; Building Entry and Searches, Computer Forensic Hacking, Edged Weapons, Combat Handgun, Combat Shotgun, Meth. Labs, H&S 11550, Tactical Baton, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, Weapon Retention, High Risk Car Stops, Search and Rescue Tracking, and Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT). In various P.O.S.T trainings Mr. Lelis has had the unique opportunity of receiving instruction from San Diego S.W.A.T., Sacramento S.W.A.T., San Diego FBI and California Highway Patrol (CHP) instructors.
In June of 2002, Mr. Lelis became the Director of Training for the pioneering company âNo Lie Bladesâ (www.nolieblades.com). Mr. Lelis has developed and implemented the Certification and âTrain the Trainerâ edged weapons programs for this state of the art company.
Mr. Lelis is owner, founder, and head instructor of Watchful Eye Defensive Tactics (www.watchfuleyedt.com). Located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, in Southern California, Watchful Eye is an innovative leader in armed and unarmed defensive tactics. Using the methodology, strategy and principles from the Filipino Martial Arts, Lelis Kali and concepts from Jeet Kune Do Watchful Eye provides âreality basedâ training programs for real life situations. State of the art developments in training at Watchful Eye include the âDisposable Tactical Training Suitâ (DTTS). This state of the art training aid brings Edged Weapons training out of the dark ages and into the 21st century. Watchful Eyeâs research and development programs continue to seek out new technologies that bring out the âtruthâ in training. Mr. Lelis has over twenty-five years experience in the martial arts having studied the combative arts of San Soo Kung Fu, Hung Gar Kung Fu, Filipino Martial Arts and Jeet Kune Do Concepts.
As a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor, Mr. Lelis specializes in teaching an updated version of the Force Continuum. This new version of the Force Continuum has been adopted by some of the leading federal law enforcement agencies in the United States, including the FBI, DEA and INS. This new and innovative training method was developed and introduced by world-renowned martial artist, Paul Vunak of Progressive Fighting Systems (PFS) (www.fighting.net). Mr. Lelis was one of only 50-law enforcement and security professionals,â world wide, trained and certified in this training method, which was conducted at DEA headquarters in San Diego.
In the mid eighties, during the height of the cold war, Mr. Lelis was a member of the U.S. Armyâs elite Intelligence group INSCOM. During his tenure he served on both sides of the globe having operated in the Middle Eastern Theater and the Pacific Theater. As an Army Intelligence soldier, Mr. Lelis received several commendations for his outstanding performance to include the Army Achievement Medal (AAM) with oak leaf cluster and the Army Superior Unit Award. The lessons learned in this Tri-service (Army, Navy, Air Force) high tech. environment is, in part, what drives Mr. Lelis to perfecting his training methods and his continued dedication to the professionals in the world, that risk their lives in order that others may live free.
Mr. Lelis is trained in Emergency Response and CPR; he is licensed to carry a concealed weapon (CCW) in the state of California and has been certified by Armament Systems and Procedures (ASP) as an ASP Baton Instructor.
