Palos Verdes(PV) is one of the oldest among all chapters, which located in about 30 miles south of LA downtown. Since 2007, when Hwarang Youth Foundation was founded, PV has been working with them to establish the identity of Korean American and to serve for the community.
We are as active as the chapter’s history. One representative activity is mentoring system. At Soleado elementary school, members teach ELD class students to improve their English skill and to help them with being part of community. Throughout this volunteering, members share knowledge they have rather than keeping themselves, practicing their leadership. Also, we participate in environmental protection activity, PVPLC, to not only preserve our nature but also learn the importance of it. In this way, we are informing the community about Hwarang and furthering member’s leadership.
PV will continue to grow as a leader of Korean American who can share our passion and talents with the local community through many activities, and will always do our best to improve together.
Hi, I’m Jaewon Kim, serving as President of Palos Verdes chapter. I feel strange to lead members as president because I still remember when I joined Hwarang for the first time as general member, following other people without knowing anything. Our chapter is focused on providing wide knowledge to people. Many members teach ELD (English Language Development) class students at Soleado Elementary School. As mentor, members are trying not only to have knowledge, but also to share them around to develop together as a community. This year, PV chapter is planning to contribute in various fields for our society. We will try our best to develop as a person throughout volunteering, practicing ‘love of neighbors.’ Finally, PV chapter is not large. If we can cooperate with other chapter, individuals, or organizations to serve for community, I am sure we will have a great time.
