The Hwarang Youth Foundation, a global youth volunteer organization dedicated to finding and addressing crucial needs in American society, is recruiting middle and high school members for the establishment of its San Francisco Chapter. This new chapter follows the successful operations of the Silicon Valley branch and other chapters in Los Altos, Cupertino, Santa Clara, San Jose, and Dublin.
Based in Los Angeles, the Hwarang Youth Foundation is a global organization with seven branches in the U.S. and members in 15 countries worldwide. Inspired by the spirit of the Hwarang from Korea’s Silla Dynasty, the foundation nurtures goal-oriented future leaders and encourages active participation to bring about positive social change.
The foundation engages in diverse volunteer activities, including partnerships with the FBI, Department of Justice, and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to raise awareness and combat youth drug abuse. Other initiatives include assisting the homeless, the Warm Heart Project, medical camps in underprivileged countries, coding schools, English and art classes for seniors, teaching smartphone and computer usage, English education for Korean students, creating folktale and Korean cuisine books, media projects, and fundraising for homeless and low-income communities.
Through these activities, members gain valuable experiences that help them discover their personal interests and passions.
Popular Programs in the Bay Area
The Silicon Valley branch recently launched programs in collaboration with Hanil Kim, President of the San Francisco & Bay Area Korean American Community Center. These programs, running since October, include health exercises, English conversation classes, art lessons, and technology workshops for seniors at the community center. These efforts have been well-received, fostering meaningful connections between youth and seniors.
Hwarang members involved in these programs shared, “These activities serve as a bridge between generations, creating meaningful moments for everyone involved and reaffirming the core values of Hwarang.”
The foundation emphasizes that its mission goes beyond community service. It aims to train youth in leadership and identity development, shaping them into well-rounded future leaders.
Upcoming Opportunities
The establishment of the San Francisco Chapter will provide local youth with opportunities to contribute to their community while developing leadership skills.
In partnership with the San Francisco & Bay Area Korean American Community Center, the chapter will launch its first initiative in January: the “Hamsterbot Coding” teaching program for elementary school students.
